Okay, I wanted to post this the night I heard about it. I believe I heard it on the 17th, but I never got around to it. Better late than never, so here goes:
United States President George W. Bush surprised his listeners at a campaign rally by seeming to oppose, then favour, then oppose replacing the all-volunteer US military with a draft.
"Our all-volunteer Army will remain an all-volunteer Army," Bush began, to cheers from supporters in Florida.
"After standing on the stage, after the debates, I made it very plain we will not have an all-volunteer Army. And yet this week ... " he continued, before suddenly realising the gaffe and shouting: "We will have an all-volunteer Army. Let me restate that: We will not have a draft ... The only person talking about a draft is my opponent. The only politicians that supported a draft are Democrats, and the best way to avoid a draft is to vote for me." Source
All I can say is, wow. Imagine yourself talking in front of a large group of people and constantly making mistakes like this. It must really take the wind out of your sails, or kill your momentum at the whim of a hat, as Dubya would say. And yet, he still has many supporters. Now, I don't claim to be the most articulate person in the world. I know damn well I'm not, but this is the leader of the United States we are talking about here.
I could forgive Bush if his slip ups were a rare occurence, but he does it all the damn time. I mean, did it ever occur to anyone that maybe, just maybe, he is lying? I'm sure it has, but I'm going to go out on a limb here and say, if Bush is reelected (and I use the term reelected here loosely), there will be a draft during his second term. If I am wrong, you can come back here and ridicule me. Don't worry, I can take the heat.
Back to Bush's fuck ups though. I mean, really, am I the only one sick and tired of hearing it happen all the time? It seems to me that he either a) doesn't have a firm grasp on the English language, which is true and I guess I can believe that is the sole reason for his mess ups, or b) he can't keep the truth straight, so he slips up all the time. Think about it, if he gets elected, he can pretty much do whatever he wants. He won't have to worry about another term, because he can only have two, so he can essentially do anything, within his power, that he wants.
Please people, there will not be a second coming of Jesus, so let's follow suit and not have a second coming of Bush! Sure, I will miss all the Bushisms, but I'd be willing to give those up to have someone else in office. Seriously though, if Bush isn't elected, he should really look into doing some stand-up. He is one funny son of a bitch.
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a huge fan of Kerry. As was pointed out already, he'll say anything to get a vote. In politics, that is the name of the game though. Bush does the same thing, to a certain extent, whether you want to believe it or not. Hell, Kerry might reinstate the draft, but I don't think it is as likely with Kerry as president. Even if it is just as likely, then it is a wash, and I would still support Kerry because he is in line with more of my beliefs.
Changing gears here a little bit. A lot of people, especially younger people, think that voting is not important. Well, let me just point out that the next president will appoint hundreds of federal judges, so that will have a huge effect on our federal court system. In addition to that, the next president will appoint (more than likely) three Supreme Court justices.
"Rehnquist, Stevens and O'Connor are expected to retire soon, at least within the next four years. That would give the next president three new justices to appoint, when even one could tip the balance." Read the full article here
That, my friends, will have a major effect on everyone's life, so please go out and vote! Okay, it is time for me to get off my soapbox.... (steps down)
I hope you enjoyed my post. I also have some good news, or bad news, depending on your political orientation. I will do a top ten, and it will be my top ten favorite Bushisms! You all have that to look forward to, possibly tomorrow even. Well, it is getting late, good night everyone.

Sounds like a bunch of liberal propaganda to me. Any time I read an update from you, the sources are typically from liberal news sites. It's like getting all your news from Fox if you're a conservative. That's major bias bullshit and I can't stand to read/listen to it.
ReplyDeleteYes, Doubya isn't the best public speaker. This has been covered time and time again, it's not new so it bores me to death when liberals whine about it like it's something new. He made a mistake, it happens. Wasn't the first, won't be the last. How that warrants an all out liberal propaganda filled assault is beyond me.
One thing I can truly credit the conservatives with (even though I dont always agree with them), you rarely see them do silly nonsense like this. For example, who protests? 99% of the time it's liberals. Even when we have a democrat in office, you've got liberals protesting something. Conservatives never do. Who makes something out of nothing? (ie. Doubya had a wire during his speech.... ie. Doubya is lying because he mis-spoke in a speech.. etc.. ) Liberals. I think what it boils down to is a certain lack of maturity. Liberals don't like that they get labeled as radicals and hippies, but they bring it on themselves.
Which is what I find to be most amusing about this election. Kerry isn't even that liberal. So the liberals have no one to really vote for. Kerry leans towards the left without question, but he is by no means a Howard-Dean anarchist liberal. Thank god... It's good to know regardless of who gets elected, we won't have complete anarchy since Dean and others like him are dead in the water.
I respect you Ryan, you know that, but not all propaganda is bad. And another thing, where do you get your news from. Show me a source that is not bias and I'll read it. Most sources are bias in some way, so it is next to impossible to find a completely unbias sources. I'm sure there are some out there, and I probbaly know a few myself, but tell me more.
ReplyDeleteI am aware that it is a documented fact that Bush isn't a good public speaker. I was just throwing it out there, I'm not claiming that it is something new. I also agree that everyone makes mistakes, but come on, how many times are we going to excuse it? Like I said, I'm not the greatest public speaker, but I hold the president to a higher standard than myself.
I also don't see anything wrong with protets. I don't know what you were trying to get at with that, but seriosuly, what is wrong with protests? What is wrong with critizing the president? Do you think I'll lay off Kerry if he fucks up? The answer to that question is no, I will not, so I don't understand what you're getting at. Please explain further.
Because protests change nothing. It's like a child who couldnt get their way and they have to find a way to cry about it. That had little to do with you, I was simply comparing conservatives to liberals.
ReplyDeleteIts very true that all news has a bias in one way or another. However, there are news sources who biases are less than others. But when you're linking to sites like the New Zealand Herald? Come on! That is simply liberal bullshit rhetoric. Like I said, the same geos for someone who gets their news from only Fox news...
Let me ask you this, do you watch Fox News on a regular basis? I don't know if you do, but I would bet to say no. Meaning you're getting your news from primarily liberal media outlets. So its not a surprise when you are leaning toward the left.
I've decided who I'm voting for and it can be found in my blog.
Well, the reason I had the New Zealand newspaper as a source was because it was the first reliable looking website that popped up when I googled "we will not have an all volunteer army." It isn't like I read that newspaper, that was actually the first time I ever heard of it in my life.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think my post was liberal propaganda. I never actually said "Bush is a liar." I am merely saying that is it a possibly. Do I actually think he is a liar? No, not entirely, but I do think he has been misleading the people of this country. That can be said for any politican though, and I'm sure Kerry will mislead the people when he is in office.
In philosophy, I recently learned a term known as the noble lie. A noble lie is a lie told by the rules that is good for society. The problem with that today is that we don't know which "lies" are noble and which aren't. That is why I believe it is best to be direct with the people and not to mislead them, which is something I think Bush has done at times when he shouldn't. I have no actual proof for this, but all I am saying is it is a possibility.
I just read about your voting status, and I can honestly respect that. Both of these candidates don't leave too much to hope for, but I'm still voting for someone. I am leaning toward Kerry, but I may just vote for Nader, just to make a point. We need another political party in this country, but it doens't like that is going to happen anytime soon. Anyways, thanks for your comments, you know I respect you a great deal, and all I ask for (this is for everyone in general) is respect in return.
Okay, so you're saying that mislead and lying means the exact some thing? Please let me clarify my usage of the word.
ReplyDeleteWhat I meant by saying, "Bush mislead the country," was that first he said Iraq had WMD. That is all fine and dandy, if that is what all the intelligence told him. I don't disagree with that, but what I do disagree with is him changing the reason after WMD were not found.
The reason was changed to "liberating the Iraqi people," or "overthrowing a dictator," or something like that. Instead of changing the reason, I would have liked the Bush administration to just plain out and say, "we made a mistake, there were no weapons of mass destruction, but we still plan to finish the job." They did come out later and say something along those lines, but not initially.
Another thing, I agree that Sadaam was a horrible person. He was a horrible ruler/dictator. However, he was a threat to his people, but not to the American people. That doesn't mean it wasn't important to get him out of Iraq, but I think we had other priorities after 9-11.
I hope you can see what I mean when I say mislead, instead of lie. If you still think I'm a fool, or whatever you meant by your last line, that is fine. I try not to resort to those childish name-calling antics, but you are welcome to do so. Thank you for reading my blog anyways, and I'll be sure to check our your blog at a later date.
